Codemasters ‘F1 2015’ game review: A must-have for racing gamers

"
Codemasters is back with its latest racing title, “F1 2015,” out now for PlayStation4, Xbox One and PC. It’s the first “F1” on the new generation of systems, which takes the whole series up a few notches. Changes in the handling model, a new Pro Season difficulty level and midseason updates are also welcome additions.

Like all games that make the jump from system to system, “F1 2015” is a far more beautiful rendition than the last. For starters, an upgraded frame rate smoothes out all the action. The last game wasn’t choppy, but this one puts it to shame at a full 60 frames per second. It reminds me of how good arcade games used to be, and how much better the graphics were than the Nintendo I was playing at the time.

The high-powered processors in the PS4 were working overtime during my week or so of gaming. Sparks from the bottom of cars ahead and the gravel that marks the runoff areas fly off individually, bouncing off your helmet and the ground in front of you in a dazzling array of movement. You can also see the inside of the tires slow down and eventually spin backward as you careen towards a wall. The flashback button, a Codemasters staple, continues to save your butt by allowing you to rewind time to a point when you weren’t horrendously out of control.
