40,000 women's licenses and 14 new schools

"The Director General of Traffic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Major General Mohammed Al-Bassami, announced that the total number of driver's licenses issued to women has exceeded 40,000. He considered the experience of women driving to be a pioneering one, adding that driving schools for women are exemplary and implement international standards, and that they are working to expand the number of women's driving schools. According to Okaz newspaper, Al-Bassami said, ""The Traffic Department has projects to establish 14 schools currently under construction, which will contribute to reducing the waiting time for women to obtain a license."" He added that the Traffic Department in the Kingdom has opened 22 license exchange centers, and this number is sufficient. He emphasized that the prices for issuing licenses to women were based on financial studies aimed at achieving quality. When asked about the implementation date of the traffic points system, Major General Al-Bassami stated that the royal decree included a two-year grace period for driving schools. Once they are ready, the points system will be implemented, and drivers will be required to return to driving schools for retraining."
